It seems like Netflix is going out of its way to snap up some of the most interesting films due for release in the coming years.

Already, they've signed up for Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, David Ayer's Bright and now Gareth Evans, director of The Raid, is in Netflix's corner with his first feature-length film after The Raid 2.

Netflix has signed up for the global distribution rights to Apostle, with Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen and Lucy Boynton attached to star. Stevens has been involved with the film from when we reported back in 2016, with Sheen and Boynton just announced in the cast alongside the news of Netflix's acquisition.

The film sounds vaguely like its taking beats from The Wicker Man, but both Deadline and THR describe the film as a "period revenge thriller", with Stevens playing a man who travels to a remote island to rescue his sister who's been held ransom by a secretive cult.

So, yeah, The Wicker Man basically. No release date has been confirmed for Apostle, but it'll likely be some time before it makes it way onto our screens.
