You can't keep a good thing down, can you?

What with the critical and commercial success of Creed and legacy sequels in general, it should come as no surprise that there's a Creed 2 in the works. In a recent interview with Variety, Sylvester Stallone let the cat out of the bag and, as well, let slip about Creed director Ryan Coogler and his involvement with Marvel.

The 29-year old (JESUS) director is being courted by Disney and Marvel to direct Black Panther and, as Stallone says, Coogler may be gone for a while. "I know Ryan is probably going to be gone for a couple years... So there will be a quandary on: Do we work with another director and have Ryan produce, or do we wait? There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel. Now they are cranking them out in a year."

It's funny that Stallone is giving out about how they crank out sequels year on year when it was the Rocky series that effectively started that trend. In any case, he raises a good point about Coogler and how it'll work going forward.

Coogler was the driving force behind Creed and when he convinced Stallone to come on board, it became a reality. Bringing in someone else would be a bit of a waste, but if Coogler has Black Panther on the horizon, he'd be crazy to turn it down. As for the Creed sequel, there's already a few ideas in the works.

Stallone also gushed about how they plan to do a Godfather Part II on the sequel, i.e. have some of set in the past and some of it set in the present. Stallone has said that they'd like to see Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the original series, back in action.

Despite Weathers being 67, Stallone says the former NFL linebacker is in good shape. "I can’t believe I got in the ring with him. Even if it was play fighting." How they'll fit Apollo Creed into the sequel is anyone's guess because, well, he died in Rocky IV at the hands of Ivan Drago. Oops, spoilers.

As much we love Carl Weathers - he was one of the funniest characters in Arrested Development - it doesn't really seem to work with him as it currently stands. What made Creed so interesting was how Apollo Creed was built up as this myth that Michael B. Jordan's character lived in the shadow of.

Putting him back in it - when he was clearly killed off - doesn't really work. Then again, we never thought we'd see another Rocky film or, for that matter, rave about it so much either.

What do you think? Can you see Carl Weathers fitting into the American flag trunks again? Let us know in the comments!
