Colin Farrell is in talks to play DC villain the Penguin in the upcoming 'The Batman' starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

It won't be Colin Farrell's first foray into comic book territory. He previously played Bullseye in the Ben Affleck starrer 'Daredevil.' More recently he starred in live-action Disney remake 'Dumbo'. He'll also feature in Guy Ritchie's next movie, 'The Gentlemen', due out in January.

Farrell is joining an all-star cast. The film will see Zoe Kravitz play Catwoman while Paul Dano will play the Riddler.

It has also been announced that Andy Serkis is in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's loyal butler.

Danny DeVito previously played the Penguin in 1992's 'Batman Returns'. Burgess Meredith portrayed the character in the 1960s 'Batman' TV series and most recently, Robin Lord Taylor played a young version of Penguin in the show 'Gotham'.

Pre-production on the Warner Bros/DC Comics adaptation is expected to start this summer but no official start date for filming has been set.

'The Batman' hit theatres June 25, 2021.
