Cannes is in full swing, and the biggest movie stars on earth are there in force promoting films that are either in production, hope to be soon, or ready to be sold. Empire Magazine are there as per usual, and caught up with one such movie star, Chris Pine, about the status of his latest (possible) franchise, that of Jack Ryan.

He told the movie mag, "The latest is that it looks like it’s happening. We have a script, and the beginnings of the production are happening" said Pine. Thor director Kenneth Branagh is currently being linked to the project, having helmed the Marvel flick for Paramount - funding studio behind the currently titled Moscow. Pine also spoke about how a spy thriller would work in todays day and age; "The trick with that one is to try to find a way to make an American spy movie in 2012 that’s just as current and apropos to the world situation, what it means to be an American spy, as it was in the Cold War era. It’s a little bit more difficult now, and tricky, but if we get that right, we’ll make an intelligent thriller."

Pine was there to promote animated flick, Rise Of The Guardians, which co-stars a former Jack Ryan - Alec Baldwin.
