The role of Lilith in the 'Borderlands' movie has been given to one of Hollywood's finest actresses.

The Eli Roth production has found its first lead character. That's right, he's cast the wonderful Cate Blanchett in 'Borderlands', a video game adaptation which is set on the abandoned fictional planet of Pandora. In the franchise, people search for a mysterious relic in a very 'Mad Max'-looking setting, stuffed with over the top action and incredibly well-designed characters.

In the 'Borderlands' video game series, Lilith is known for being part of the Siren class. Originally from the planet Dionysus, being one of six Sirens sees Lilith host a range of unbelievable powers. In the video game, she is a close-range striker, with the power to turn invisible to opposing enemies, and create a huge shockwave to hit everything around her. How much of her powers make it to the movie adaptation remains to be seen.

Roth, known for his work on 'Hostel' and 'Inglorious Basterds', said of Blanchett's involvement in his video game adaptation: "I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in 'Borderlands'. We had the most incredible collaboration together on 'The House with a Clock in Its Walls', and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do.

"From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director’s dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we’re going to create another iconic character in her already storied career."

Indeed, Cate Blanchett made the change from drama to comic-book action in Taika Waititi's brilliant 'Thor: Ragnarok', where she played the nefarious Hela. Interestingly, it has been rumoured that the character may be making a return on screen in the future, and with Waititi returning for 'Thor 4', we just might see that happen.

Cate Blanchett in 'Borderlands' is still quite a while away, as the video game adaptation isn't yet slated for a future release date. Keep an eye out for further casting announcements over the coming months as Roth begins to cast the rest of the characters from the outlandish game.
