Director of the Oscar winning Boys Don't Cry, Kimberly Peirce, is reportedly in talks to direct a new adaptation of Stephen King's first novel Carrie, says Deadline.
Brian De Palma directed a version of King's novel in 1976 that wasn't exactly faithful, but was a box office hit and generally effective. The story centres on a horribly harassed high school girl who finally snaps and uses her telekinetic powers to bring a world of pain on her school mates that bullied her. Pierce also helmed the drama Stop Loss and is known for her gritty, unrelenting style.
Another horror remake it may be, if Pierce sticks more closely to the book then it could still be very different. There was a sequel in the 90s that most people wisely ignored.
