Move over Sex and the City. Bridesmaids, the comedy hit of the summer that has both women and men in stitches has reportedly earned $152.9 million domestically. This means, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that the movie produced by Judd Apatow, directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristin Wiig has now become the top R-rated female comedy of all time, shoving Sex and the City off the top spot.
Sex and the City earned $152.6 million following its release back in 2008 while through Sunday, Bridesmaids domestic intake was $152.9 million. The movie which surprised box office prognosticatorson it's opening weekend, bringing in $24.6m domestically has been one of the most positively received movies of the year. The Univesral hit is expected to end Monday the July 4th holiday with a domestic total of $153.7 million.
This comes as good news to Universal who are dancing their way to the bank after quite a lull in their box office earnings. Also very happy is Apatow as this makes Bridesmaids his highest ever grossing movie outdoing both Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Knocked Up which he produced and directed.
