Borderlands, and the follow-up Borderlands 2, were one of the best open-world RPGs we've seen in quite some time.

The anarchic mix of straight-up FPS shooting and character building, coupled with a fantastic storyline and dialogue, meant that Borderlands was sure to become a hit with fans and critics alike. Sure enough, it did.

The recent glut of videogames-to-films is continuing, with Lionsgate announcing two producers for their take on Borderlands. However, when we read who was involved, we rolled our eyes a little bit.

Avi and Ari Arad, although credited with creating the Iron Man franchise and Marvel's run at the top of the box offices, haven't had much going on in recent years. His last film, post Marvel, was Robosapien: Rebooted. Which we have no idea or clue as to what that is.

The father-and-son duo have been quietly buying up the rights to videogame adaptations, announcing Metal Gear Solid, Lost Planet and now Borderlands as upcoming films.

As with all these cases, there's no director, script or anything attached - so don't expect any more news on this for quite some time. Our guess is that a lot of these projects, Borderlands included, are hinging on how Warcraft will play for Universal and Assassin's Creed for Fox.

If either one of these films cracks the box office and becomes a crossover hit with mainstream audiences, all these films will get shunted into the fast track.

In the meantime, enjoy this.
