Looks like The Soloist has claimed the bankability of its director, Joe Wight, with the news that his heavily-in-preproduction epic drama, Indian Summer, has been temporarily shelved. Empire are saying that the $40 million project, which was due to star Cate Blanchett as Edna Mountbatten, the wife of Britain’s Indian governor, Lord Mountbatten, is basically a victim of the recession, as Universal continue to cut productions. They are also reporting that Working Title, who were producing the film, have an instant greenlight for anything under $30 million, but when the budget hit $40 million, they pulled the plug. It does seem like the middle-budgeted films are struggling nowadays, as, with the exception of The Hangover, not one has really broken out this year.
