Ben Affleck has cast himself in the lead role of his third film as director, Argo, reports Variety.

The "wryly humoured" political thriller centres on a rescue effort mounted by the CIA and the Canadian government to extract six U.S. diplomats from capture in Iran in 1979. The Agents posed as a film crew scouting a science fiction film to infiltrate the captors. Veteran actors Alan Arkin and John Goodman are in advanced negotiations to join Affleck, while George Clooney is producing the film.

Both Gone Baby Gone and The Town are cracking films, and Affleck shone as the star of the latter. Couldn't be more looking forward to seeing what he does with Argo.
