Barry Norman, best known as the first host of long-running film review programme Film, has passed away at the age of 83.

Norman, who hosted the show from 1972 up until 1998, was known for his witty reviews and deep insight and love of films - having worked as a showbiz editor and film critic for over thirty years.

Speaking at the announcement of his passing, his agent described him as "the defining voice of film criticism and insightful interviewing of screen legends from both sides of the camera."

Norman is survived by his two daughters. Rest well, Barry Norman. And why not?
