Digital spy report that X-Men: Apocalypse will hit cinema screens in May 2016. That means it will join Alice in Wonderland 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in that year's summer blockbuster lineup.

If you are like me and assumed that the new movie would band all of our favourite - and familiar - X-Men characters together to fight the end of the world, well, you would be wrong. Days of Future Past is coming out next year to serve that purpose (not to fight the end of the world but to showcase the X-Men collective.)

Apocalypse is actually a character. Immortal and from Egypt, he leads a group of warriors called the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He lives in comic book form in an alternate X-Men universe in which Magneto is the top X-Man - although wouldn't he be an M-Man? Anyway, it sounds cool and it's nice that it's not a sequel like the other two big summer 2016 releases.

It's bound to be a hit and is definitely set to be one of the most discussed movies for the next couple of years.

Looking forward to next year's X-Men release Days of Future Past? We are. Watch the trailer below.
