Director of recent Liam Neeson hit thriller, Jaume Collet-Serra, is in talks to direct the ridiculously gestating flick, Akira.

According to Variety, Serra's handling of the $30 million budgeted Unknown - which went on to take $130 million at the box office - impressed the Akria producers, who are looking to replace the recently departed Albert Hughes. Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves has penned the latest draft of the script, while Warner Bros. are now apparently envisioning the film as slimmed down $90 million tent pole.

Serra also helmed Orphan and horror remake, House of Wax.
