For Dubliners, Screen Cinema was a beautiful little cinema just off D'Olier Street.

The crisp, blue neon shown bright for many years before it was eventually removed and replaced by a generic IMC logo. Now, not long after that, Screen Cinema is set to finally shut its doors for good.

An event page has been set up on Facebook, however Screen Cinema have confirmed that it's business as usual right up until the end with no classic screenings planned or anything of the sort.  In a way, that's not a bad thing. Screen Cinema dies as she lived - serving the people of Dublin with the best that cinema had to offer on a weekly basis.

Would someone ever fix the #screencinema sign please? It's making me sad

It's a crying shame to see any cinema go unused and unloved, but Screen Cinema was a landmark in Dublin. That neon sign held a special place for some. There's been no word yet on what's going in there instead, whether the building will be knocked and replaced or if - hopefully - another cinema will spring up in its place instead.

We'll miss you, Screen Cinema. We saw Heat in there once for a classic screening and it was just the best.
