A live-action hybrid movie based on 'Tom and Jerry' is in the works, with 'Ride Along' director Tim Story set to helm.

'Tom and Jerry' is easily one of the most recognisable animated duos in history, along the same lines as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Seven of the cartoon shorts even picked up Oscars in the '40s and '50s, whilst a full-length animated movie was made in 1993.

Details are light at the moment, but it's understood that Warner Bros. are kicking a few of the Hanna-Barbera properties into active development, with 'Home Alone' director Chris Columbus also set to be taking on a similar live-action hybrid with Scooby-Doo. Again, details are light on both movies, but expect there to be more news to follow in the months ahead.

Just to give you an idea of how violent 'Tom and Jerry' was back in the day, here's a taste.
