A Dog's Purpose was not everyone's cup of tea or bowl of water.

In fact, it was pretty well trounced by just about every outlet out there and currently has a 30% Rotten Tomatoes' score and a Metacritic rating of 43%. But, we live in a global world and considering A Dog's Purpose has made silly money at the Chinese box office - $88,226,996 so far - a sequel is now under way that'll directly appeal to Chinese audiences.

According to analysts, the film played exceptionally well with middle-class Chinese pet owners and became a huge hit there. China is now the second largest film market in the world, so if a film does well there, studios are more than happy to churn out a sequel to satisfy them - even if it underperforms in the US or other markets.

According to the Wall Street Journal, A Dog's Purpose 2 is going to specifically appeal to Chinese audiences - which either means a portion of the film set in China ala Transformers: Age of Extinction, or the film will feature Chinese actors and so on. Either way, expect more dogs dying on screen for your amusement.
