Released on this day in 1991, Point Break helped to solidify director Kathryn Bigelow's reputation as a director with a strong sense of action and tension, and helped to further the surfing craze that was sweeping America.
Starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Gary Busey and Lori Petty - as well as a cameo by Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis - Point Break was a commercial hit, but a failure in the eyes of critics of the time. It's since been reconsidered as a wildly entertaining action film - and basically inspired The Fast & The Furious.
But did you know a sequel was planned? Are you receiving my signal?
