Frankly, we're surprised Jude Law managed to wait this long before planting his wily seed in another woman.

Yesterday, Jude's rep confirmed that an unnamed lady is housing his baby, which has been baking in her womb for no less than seven months. Why this lady waited such a long time to announce this news - until Jude started his run playing Hamlet in London's Wyndham Theatre, in fact - will forever remain one of life's mysteries.

The statement read: "I can confirm that following a relationship last year, Jude Law has been advised by the birth mother that he is to be the father of a child due in the autumn of this year. He is no longer in a relationship with her but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child's life. This is an entirely private matter and no further statements will be made."

Now, the only thing left to do before his rep's statement hit the fan, was to tell the ex-wife and three kiddies: "His relationship with the girl was a passing fling, nothing serious. It was supposed to be a bit of fun for the both of them. He had no idea she was pregnant until she called and told him. Jude is a family man and he would not choose for a child to be born under these circumstances. But he wants to behave honourably (after he screwed his kids nanny while engaged to someone else)... Jude's main concern is his family so he visited Sadie at home in London this week to tell them. There are, of course, financial implications ('cause being an A-list actor regularly sees you out of pocket, 'n stuff). But Jude is adamant these will not affect his relationship with his family. He will not shy away from his parental duties and wants to be involved as much as possible."

According to The Sun, "The relationship is said to have taken place while he was working on the set of new (COMING TO A CINEMA NEAR YOU THIS STEPHEN'S DAY) movie Sherlock Holmes in New York, over Christmas."

Managing relations with two families on either side of the Atlantic... How hard could that be.

TMZ claims that the mystery moter to be is *drum roll*, Samantha Burke, an actress/model. Jude and Samantha are due a baby girl on 6th October and will plan to call her Sophia.

Ms Burke's attorneys had this to say "Ms. Burke can confirm that she did in fact have a relationship with Mr. Law and that she has informed Mr. Law that she is expecting his child later this fall. Since informing Mr. Law of the pregnancy, he has been nothing but responsive and supportive of Ms. Burke and the pregnancy".
