"Attacked" is a very strong word. And it's use is particularly questionable in this instance. From what we can deduce, he wasn't "attacked", more accosted by that Ukranian muppet who likes making a tit out of himself at such events - Vitalii Sediuk.

Before everyone (and by 'everyone', I mean TMZ) copped exactly who the 'attacker' was, news reports such as they below were being aired.
Here is what actually happened, via The Daily Mail. There was contact made with Brad's face, but he wasn't seriously hurt as he continued greeting fans before walking into the theatre. Angelina wasn't with him at the time as she was busy greeting fans elsewhere.
As for what happened to Vitalli, the resulting scuffle was reportedly so violent he almost "lost his pants". You can see the photos here, if you're into that sort of thing. He was then taken to a police station and booked on suspicion of misdemeanour battery in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Glib comments and being pedantic regarding the use of the word 'attack' aside, this incident would've been very frightening, especially if Brad's kids happened to be watching. Five of them were reportedly in attendance.
