Tom Cruise has finally opened up about jumping on Oprah Winfrey's sofa during a previous interview on her show, saying: "I'll take responsibility for my actions". The 47-year-old Top Gun actor spoke to US Esquire about the TV moment that has made him the butt of jokes for the last five years. "Perception and reality are two different things," says Cruise, who appears on the cover of the June/July issue of the men’s magazine. "I don't know if you saw the whole Oprah show. What happened, happened. Yeah, the point can be made that I wanted the audience to be happy, just like I wanted to make my sisters and my mother happy when I did those skits as a kid. But I'll take responsibility for my actions."
In the infamous episode of the show, which aired in May 2005, Cruise jumped up and down on the guest sofa to show Winfrey how excited he was about his romance with actress Katie Holmes. The incident was just a series of appearances that led to widespread criticism of the Mission Impossible star who also became more vocal about the Church of Scientology.
He went on to say "The thing is, it got spun out. Afterwards, wild things were being said about me, and once they're in the air, there's nothing you can do about it. My deal with Paramount was up and it wasn't extended. At first it was, 'Huh? I don't get it'. But people have misconceptions about that whole thing too..Those are times you learn a lot about life…” *scratches head*
Cruise also opened up about life with third wife Katie Holmes, 31, who he married in 2006. "You know, I'm married to such a special woman," he says. "Every night before we go to sleep, Kate and I look at each other and it's like, 'How'd we do today?'
