On one hand, you could think: "Too right she can keep the ring after everything you've put her through!" On the other hand, why would you want to keep such a thing.... although 150k could go towards some material stuff to soften the pain of such a huge rejection on a very public stage. Then again, Caroline has made her own money, why would she keep his? It's all very bizarre, and we're not even directly involved. Imagine how brain bamboozled Wozniacki is right now.
To soften the blow somewhat, McIlroy needs to stick to what he said in his statement; that he's not going to comment any further "in any setting." Despite stating that yesterday, he went on to have an interview which was then broadcast at every news bulletin. Thing is, what he said in that interview was even more upsetting:
"There’s no good time to end a relationship. I made a commitment to be here. It’s the European Tour’s flagship event. It was my duty to play. Once I gave my word, I wasn’t going to go back on it."
That was a very subtle way of saying Golf is his first - and only - love. Nothing comes in the way of Golf, he gave his word to Golf, his duty is to play Golf, and there was no going back on Golf. Never mind that he gave his word in the form of a proposal to Caroline, he could always go back on that. Golf, on the other hand... And it's that single-mindedness, that tunnel vision, that makes him a world class professional golfer. It may also make him a very lonely old man, but sure there's plenty of time for that yet, he's only 25.
I'm no professional at anything, and one shouldn't speculate, but it's almost like loving Caroline was the problem. His love for her got in the way of Golf. That's just my two cents on a relationship I know nothing about.

Back to the ring. The Independent reports: “'They were together nearly three years and that time meant a lot to him so he would like to see her keep the ring.' Rory, worth an estimated €30m, "went down on bended knee after a New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Sydney. The source said there was 'no third party' involved in the split, which came like a bolt out of the blue on Wednesday morning. 'There were lengthy conversations in the last few days between thembut a joint statement was never going to be a possibility,' the source added."
Caroline has since broken her silence on the matter, posting the following via twitter.
It's a hard time for me right now. Thanks for all the sweet messages!Happy I support Liverpool right now because I know I'll never walk alone
