Poor Robbie is fast alienating his target market. He's too "irrelevant" to play on BBC Radio 1, and now he's miffed the remainder of his fan base after comments made on the Graham Norton Show.
When talking of him lamping an elderly woman during his video for Candy, Norton said: "It's quite a shocking image isn't it." Williams responded: "It is, isn't it? They wanted me to kick a dog and I'm an animal lover, so I was just not having that. Then they said 'punch a pensioner' and I was like, 'Yeah, I'm in'."
The National Pensioners Convention had this by way of a retort: "Celebrities should think twice before making ageist comments which seem to imply that pensioners be treated in a degrading way."
Robbie had one of his mouthpieces deliver this reply: "Robbie Williams does not condone violence in any way: the plot for this particular video did involve some aggressive scenes but they in no way reflect his views on violence in real life. He was playing a particular role in the video."
Yep, the role of Robbie Williams trying to peddle new song Candy in an "edgy" manner. Just not edgy enough for 15-29-year-olds.
Hey, at least he was still deemed relevant enough to turn on Oxford Street's Christmas Lights last night. On Guy Fawkes night. Apparently November 5th is the official start of the Festive season...
