RTE are planning a memorial to honour the late broadcaster Gerry Ryan. The story comes as Sunday World posted a story claiming that RTE were planning a life-size bronze statue, with an expected cost of up to €70,000.

2FM then later posted a number of tweets on the issue, calling the story "inaccurate and incorrect". The national broadcaster explained that the station is planning a private ceremony and that the memorial is not expected to cost anything close to figure stated by Sunday World.

Gerry Ryan, a well-loved broadcaster, died in 2010 from a heart attack in his apartment on Leeson St., Dublin. As well as hosting a daily show on 2FM, Ryan also hosted a number of television shows through the years for RTE. The memorial to Gerry Ryan comes at a time when the national broadcaster is facing significant cutbacks in budget.

Sunday World reported that staff in the broadcaster are angry with the cost, however 2FM stress that it will not cost "anything close" to what Sunday World claim.
