A few months back. it was reportedly that the ex-couple's 15-year-old son, Rocco, wanted to live with his father - director Guy Ritchie - at his home in London.
This was news to Madonna, and she set about getting her son back in time for Christmas, via a court order. Since then a custody battle has been raging on, with Madonna reportedly posting cryptic messages to her Instagram (which has since been switched to private)
At a court hearing yesterday, New York Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan had this to say: "Frankly, both parties have chosen to live their lives in a very public way and may welcome the publicity, but the child has not... He would like this matter resolved and the issues concerning him and his family in the most private way possible... I’m encouraging the parents to resolve this matter in the best way possible for the child to take this tremendous pressure off their son."
While neither the singer nor the director were physically present in court, Madonna's lawyer Eleanor Alter "argued that Ritchie’s decision not to bring Rocco back to the States as previously agreed upon could be construed as irresponsible. 'He taught his son that obeying court orders... is not necessarily important. That is one of the most serious things that has happened in this court'."
Despite this, Kaplan ruled that Rocco did not have to return to New York to be with his mother. He's currently enrolled in a school in London.
The couple are due to be in court at the beginning of June.
