There really is nothing on this planet that can make you feel so desperately inadequate as finding out that ridiculously good-looking people are also horrifyingly nice on top of it.

It just really makes you wallow in a pit of utter self-hatred knowing that their incredible luck in the gene pool hasn't turned them into self-absorbed and awful human beings in the process of getting all that attention - and so it goes with Ryan Reynolds and his perma-bro, Jake Gyllenhaal.

The star of 'Donnie Darko' and 'Nightcrawler' penned a touching open letter to Reynolds for Variety's 'New Power Of New York' list, where he described the Canadian actor upon their first meeting as "quick and warm and thoughtful, a gentleman in an era of foppish putzes, the unlikely love child of Mel Brooks and Dorothy Parker and Gary Cooper."

Gyllenhaal goes on, describing how Reynolds managed to build 'the house of Deadpool' brick by brick with his own skill and intuition, and how so much of Reynolds' own unique wit and humour was funneled into it. As he puts it, "it was no surprise that the whole damn world rallied as soon as it had the chance to really see him: all of the edges and darkness, the crackerjack wit borne from a lifetime of sensitivity and sadness, and against all odds, the openness."

"So often — too often — the wildly talented people of our world funnel the lion’s share of their energy into their work, but as good a writer and comedian as Ryan is, he is a better friend and father and husband. And that, for me, is the true mark of power." You can read the full article here, and we're going to put 1982's hit, 'That's What Friends Are For' below to add ambience.
