Their 'unconscious coupling' in 2014 generated a lot of headlines, but Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about her split with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in a new interview.
Paltrow told the New York Times Magazine that the backlash to their split statement was unexpected, and that she was "in a lot of pain" at the time, saying: "I was really saying we’re in a lot of pain, we failed at this; we’re going to try and do it in a different way. But I was so raw that I didn’t anticipate … I think that was an instance where it really hit me that an insouciance with language from me is different than from somebody else.”
She added: "Really, the question becomes how much of your ego are you willing to check at the door, and can you let go of spite – because if you can do those things, then you absolutely can have a friendly divorce. It’s just how much control do you have over your own behaviour, really, at the end of the day."
She also revealed that she wanted a third child, saying "All I’m saying is it’s not nothing. I really wanted another one." The pair have two kids, Moses and Apple, and Paltrow has since gone on to marry TV writer/producer Brad Falchuk.
The actress has come under fire for her comments in the same interview relating to her controversial wellness website Goop, which has been criticised in the past for publishing inaccurate and arguably dangerous information. She revealed that the site had since employed a fact-checker, describing it as a "necessary growing pain".
