Chris Martin is desperate to repair his relationship with Jennifer Lawrence since she got the notion he "wanted to have his cake and eat it." Which is what most people want to do with their cake, to be fair.

The Coldplay crooner was recently given the flick by the Hunger Games' actress after four months of dating, but has been "saying all the right things" in a bid to win back her affections.

A source told Britain's Grazia: "Jen cooled things with Chris because she thought he was keeping his options open and wanted to have his cake and eat it. But since then, Chris has been saying all the right things to Jen. He said he'd support her through the Hunger Games tour (unlike this garment) and make her a priority."

Jennifer is said to have been particularly concerned about Chris' closeness to estranged wife Gwyneth (well, they have got two kids together) but he has told her she has nothing to worry about.

The source added: "Chris made lots of promises about issues that bothered Jen. He said she could meet his children and that he would make more time for her. He assured Jen that she didn't need to deal with romantic dinners with Gwyneth - it's definitely turning point for them." OK....? So is she not invited to the "romantic dinners with Gwyneth" or what's the story?

However, while the 24-year-old is open to reuniting with the 'Fix You' hitmaker, friends have warned her to be cautious and she wants to stay in control of their romance.

The source said: "Friends have warned Jennifer that Chris may just be saying what she wants to hear. She has agreed to keep seeing Chris and see what happens - she wants things to work but she's very much in control."
