It'll likely go down in history as one of the most controversial moments in tennis history, and the story still isn't even over yet.
After a heated argument with an umpire during the final of the US Open which quickly spiralled into something much more, Serena Williams has now been fined $17,000 for her actions during the match that saw her docked a game against Naomi Osaka.
Needless to say, the incident has sent shockwaves across the sport and social media as a whole. Serena Williams has no shortage of supporters or fans, including those in the A-list world of celebrity.
Here's a few of the tweets following the incident.
“I don’t cheat to win. I’d rather lose”...Serena Williams

(2/2) When a woman is emotional, she’s “hysterical” and she’s penalized for it. When a man does the same, he’s “outspoken” & and there are no repercussions. Thank you, @serenawilliams, for calling out this double standard. More voices are needed to do the same.

The hypocrisy of the umpire to penalize @serenawilliams in a sport that celebrated the antics of John McEnroe and Ilie Nastace is a blatant display of sexism #usopen

Serena’s one of the greatest athletes/champions of all time and didn’t get the McEnroe pass with the umpire. But let’s not forget Naomi Osaka was ballin’(!) and got inside that head some, too.
