Bill Cosby has been charged with a sexual assault that took place ten years ago against a former employee of Temple University.

The 78-year old comedian has been under intense scrutiny after several women came forward and alleged that the comedian had drugged and sexually assaulted them.

Cosby was charged by prosecutors from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania after a woman, Beverly Constand, contacted police and alleged that he drugged and assaulted her near his home in Philadelphia.

As the alleged assault took place ten years ago, it is within the statute of limitations. Previous efforts to bring a criminal case against Cosby failed due to the alleged assaults taking place many years ago.

Under state law in Pennsylvania, the statute of limitations on certain sexual assault cases can last up to twelve years. It's understood the statute runs out for Cosby's case in January 2016.
