The Wicklow man looks set to become Ireland's biggest breakout music star in many a moon.
It's the most compelling Irish album of the year, as well as one of the most rewarding success stories in a LONG time, and the plaudits just keep rolling in for Hozier.
Having gained some considerable TV time in the States on the likes of Ellen, Letterman and, most recently, last weekend's Saturday Night Live, it seems that Hozier's brand of baroque soul music has firmly set its roots into the United States and this is evidenced by his debut at #2 in the Billboard album charts having shifted 57,859 units of his self-titled debut - the second highest charting entry for a new artist this year.
In addition to America, Hozier has also entered the Canadian charts at #2, the Belgian charts at #3 and the UK album chart at #5.
The critics Stateside have been incredibly effusive in their praise, too.
Rolling Stone remarked, “the rising soul singer delivered a rousing performance that ensured people don't forget his name anytime soon.” Entertainment Weekly declared, “Hozier wins the evening's ‘Best Musical Moment’ with his performance of ‘Take Me To Church,’ a bluesy, eerie song the Irish singer performed with just enough soul.”
Fair play, lad.
