So, for the second year running, Ireland will not compete in the Eurovision final. The glory days are well and truly over, folks.
We can't fault Molly Sterling with her cracking song, as it was clearly the best of the bunch that were up for selection - but the Twitter reaction to the news this morning has been dejected, angry and amusing all at once.
See below for a selection of tweets that sum up our collective feelings on the subject:
Ok Ireland, you didn't make into the Eurovision final, lets not be dicks about it today.

Good news already for Ireland: we're not in the Eurovision final

Once again, @Eurovision fails to recognize that heroic Ireland "took one for the Euro team" in 2010 and cruelly rejects @SterlingMolly

Wait. WHAAAAAAAT? Ireland's OUT of Eurovision?! That's illegal isn't it? I thought they have to win every three years.

If Ireland wants to make the Eurovision finals next year, they need to take a spaceship and ask the rulers of Planet Jedward to compete

sorry but i need to reiterate that Ireland deserved a place in the final and Molly Sterling is a talent to be reckoned with

So Australia are competing in Eurovision, but Ireland aren't? Life is weird.
