Pete Astor, formerly with indie hopefuls Loft, has become the latest disillusioned singer to retreat to his home studio and make lo-fi, electronic pop records. The result is an unexpectedly enjoyable album, a creative and melodic blend of psychedelic beats and sharp, poetic lyrics. While many of the songs are superficially simple, the sentiments are a very deep shade of blue and there's nothing amateur about it at all. A worthy companion to the latest releases by Beck, Sparklehorse and Badly Drawn Boy; any more of this and bedsit pop will become all the rage.
