Most wedding presents are unwanted, but David Gedge's quirky cult outfit are a glorious exception. After making a long series of sadly underrated albums with them, he left to form Cinerama with his girlfriend Sally Murrell. Now that they've broken up, however, Gedge is back recording under his old moniker - and of course, he's got a fresh set of romantic grievances to write about. The music here is a bit more lush than old fans will be used to, but otherwise it's business as usual - rueful indie songs about lust and loss, delivered with an agonised croon and caustic wit. If you're in a happy relationship, you might just find it all a bit prosaic and self-indulgent. If, on the other hand, you've just been dumped, then this is a man who knows exactly how you feel. Time for some top quality wallowing.
