Noel Gallagher recently said that The Frank and Walters inspired him to form Oasis, a surprising comment given that the Cork trio have been in a commercial backwater ever since their brief brush with fame back in the early 90s. Their new album sees the introduction of synthesisers to their staple guitar sound but apart from that the formula is much the same: pop songs which manage to be both radio-friendly and lyrically substantial. If Glass is less immediate than their older albums, that may be because it's the work of a band trying new moves and aiming for a richer sound. Mr Gallagher could do worse than to take another listen.
