A collection of demos recorded over 35 years ago might not seem worthy of a commercial release, but when they're made by one of the seminal bands of the 60s it's a different story. The Byrds' fusion of folk and pop was truly revolutionary for its time and this set of early recordings provides a valuable insight into how the foundations were laid. As you would expect there's a heavy Beatles influence here, but already the classic Crosby-Hillman-Clark-McGuinn lineup were forging their own unique, psychedelic take on country music that was to make them stars around the world. Released at a bargain price, Preflyte is a fascinating slice of pop history and a pretty good album in its own right too.
