So many downright awful tribute albums have been made over the last few years that even diehard Who fans are likely to look upon this one with deep suspicion. Substitute, however, deserves to be given a chance, not least because it has the blessing of the band themselves and is clearly driven by honorable intentions. All the usual suspects are on hand - Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast - and they do a surprisingly decent job of recreating such mod classics as 'Pictures of Lily', 'Behind Blue Eyes' and 'Who Are You?' Hardly an essential purchase, but a reasonable addition to any Who collection.
