Staind are yet another of those bands who are huge in America but mean absolutely nothing on this side of the water - and listening to their new album, it's hard to feel that we're missing out on much. Their brand of sweaty, angst-ridden grunge is aimed squarely at disaffected teenagers and is likely to strike anyone over the age of 15 as irritatingly self-indulgent and whiny. To do them justice, vocalist Aaron Lewis has a fine, soulful voice when he can be bothered to use it properly and the production values are undeniably high. On the whole, though, this is emotionally puerile stuff that will probably embarrass even their fans when they get just a little older.
