Several of the acts scheduled to play the cancelled Killarney Festival of Music and Food have been re-housed in the town's INEC venue.
In a statement released by the INEC, they said they had been contacted by several Irish acts who still wished to perform in Killarney over the weekend, presumably having already made plans to travel. Patrick O’Donoghue, Managing Director of The Gleneagle Hotel and INEC said: “They are determined not to disappoint their loyal fans and, as our venues have no acts scheduled for this weekend, we are able to oblige.”
The acts that will play are:
SATURDAY: Walking on Cars, Mick Flannery, Little Hours and guests // (tickets are €20 including booking fee)
SUNDAY: Damien Dempsey, Mundy and guests // (tickets are €20 including booking fee)
It should be pointed out that these rescheduled gigs are not associated with the cancelled festival, so your festival ticket will not get you in and you should contact your point of purchase for a refund.
If you'd like to attend either/both of the above gigs, however, you can buy tickets from Ticketmaster shortly. All proceeds from the gig will go to the Oncology Unit in Tralee General Hospital and Cuan Counselling.
Meanwhile, Duran Duran have issued a statement about the festival's cancellation. Writing on their website, they said: "The band had been really looking forward to the show on Sunday – and were planning to fly in from the Dutch festival they are headlining the day before. This would have been their first appearance in Ireland for some time and one of only a handful of dates in the lead up to the release of their new album, Paper Gods, on September 11.
"Learning about this last minute, unexpected news tonight, the band confirmed their commitment to return as soon as possible to perform for their Irish fans. They could not be more disappointed at this news – knowing that many people were planning to travel from far and wide to see the show."
