Sheryl Crow may have just turned 40, but if her latest album is anything to go by, that mid-life crisis may be some way off yet. C'mon C'mon is her most exuberant offering to date, a collection of bluesy soft-rock and simple country ballads, with sunny, upbeat lyrics and choruses you find yourself humming even before the song ends. Predictable it might be, but it's also exceptionally polished and reminds you that Crow hasn't won eight Grammy awards for nothing. The obligatory guest appearances, meanwhile, come from Don Henley, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Nicks and others, including, bizarrely enough Gwyneth Paltrow on backing vocals. C'mon C'mon will strike some as unbearably passe, but then all Sheryl wants to do is have some fun - and as this album's sales will surely prove, she's not the only one.
