Mary Lorson is the voice of Madder Rose, the East Coast band whose brand of guitar-driven angst has so far proved far more popular with critics than with record buyers. Saint Low is her side project and, on this evidence, the start of something very promising. The mix of gentle pianos and understated strings makes the perfect backdrop for Lorson's dreamy, seductive vocals and the standard of songwriting is consistently high. An unexpected but very welcome surprise.
