Now almost twenty years on the go, the revolutionary genre-bending trio from Queens returns with a new album featuring a host of guest performers from all sides of the rap spectrum. While the results are decidedly mixed, the very fact that people such as Fred Durst and Everlast can appear here is an interesting indicator of how hip-hop has finally crossed over into the mainstream. Crown Royal certainly has its moments but unfortunately it's severely weakened by its lyrics and the bluster about what great guys Run and his pals are is far from convincing. On this evidence, their best days are clearly behind them.
