After a glut of Britney clones, at last - a female RandB star with something original to say. Alicia 'P!nk' Moore may have ditched the hair colour that gave her her nickname, but she's produced a sharp, lively album second album that's far more valuable than any contrived image. The strength of M!ssundaztood is that most of its songs are clearly rooted in real experience, namely the trauma Moore bears from her childhood in a broken home. Songs such as 'Family Portrait' and 'My Vietnam' are raw and heartfelt, addressing the past with a defiant frankness that's oddly moving. Troubled memories haven't stopped her from being a good-time girl at heart, however, as current single 'Get The Party Started' eloquently testifies while 'Misery' is a gritty duet with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler that works far better in practice than it should in theory. A fine album - what a shame she couldn't come up with a better title for it.
