Alanis Morissette fans bored with waiting for their idol to produce new material might well find a lot to interest them in the debut album from Peppercorn. Like Morisette, this dreadlocked, multi-racial singer-songwriter has a knack of turning litanies of everyday frustrations into catchy rock anthems that are just waiting to take the charts by storm. A mix of folk, raw soul and reggae with a host of country, RandB and African influences thrown into the mix, Free Love is a consistently arresting and powerful album. With her distinctively breathy voice and brutally honest lyrics, it would be little surprise if Peppercorn became a huge star before the year is out.
