As new acoustic albums from David Gray and David Kitt go down a storm in the UK, the time is right for this Norwegian duo to unleash their brand of low-key, understated pop. With very basic instrumentation of guitar and piano, occasionally enlivened by cello or drums, this is about as simple and unadorned as modern music gets. The Scandinavian-inflected tones of singer Erik Glambek Boe is the band's real strong point, however, his world-weary delivery being perfectly suited to these songs of disillusion and resentment. It works well in small doses, but over the course of an album the lack of variety eventually becomes more than a little irritating.
