Justin Bieber has been involved in a car accident yesterday in California, apparently as a passenger in a car trying to escape from the attentions of a paparazzo. As per reports in TMZ, Bieber was being chased by a photographer when his car struck a BMW but, luckily for all involved, no one was hurt in the incident.

You may recall that in January of 2013 a photographer was killed when he crossed a busy road to try and get photographs of the Canadian pop star. After that incident, Bieber wrote: "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrtities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."

Bieber is known for having a particularly frosty relationship with the paparazzi and has struck out at them several times. This incident comes as the latest piece of negative publicity for the 'Girlfriend' singer, who was arrested several months ago for drag-racing in Florida under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

However, it's not as simple as to lay all the blame for these incidents squarely at Bieber himself as the US paparazzi are notorious for their over-the-top pursuits of celebrities and have a reputation for stopping at nothing to get the shots they want.
