Foo Fighters fans are in for a treat, this year.

Not only have the LA based band announced that their eagerly awaited, as yet untitled, 8th studio album is due for release in November, a sneak peek of the new HBO series Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways has just dropped on YouTube.

The series charts the recording of the band's new album in eight cities across the US: Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington DC and will no doubt be in a similar vein to Grohl's excellent 2013 rockumentary Sound City, which documented the rise and fall of the iconic Los Angeles studio of the same name.

According to an official statement issued to the press, the band based themselves at an iconic studio integral to the unique history and character of each location, drafting in 'local legends' from each of the eight cities featured as part of both the recording and filming processes. The statement also claims that one song was recorded in each city.

For his part, Grohl, who formed Foo Fighters 20 years ago, claims to have '...pulled up the family tree of American music and exposed its roots to find inspiration for the next Foo Fighters album.'

Roll on November...
