It seems like any event with the words 'Garth' or 'Brooks' anywhere near it is doomed to failure in this country at the moment. Following the international incident fiasco that was the ill-fated series of concerts by the country music legend in Croke Park, a number of event promoters across the country saw an opportunity and arranged some manner of Brooks-related entertainment for this weekend. However, much like the Croke Park gigs, it wasn't plain sailing.
Doheny Nesbitts on Baggott Street was one of these spots and they decided to book a Garth Brooks tribute act to play in their pub on Sunday and Monday night which, in our opinion at least, is a pretty smart move. Supply/demand, and so forth.
Anyway, as per the pub's official Facebook page, they've been forced to pull the plug on the Sunday night show after - yep, you've guessed it - complaints for nearby residents.
Their official Facebook page reads: "You're not going to believe this folks but the big man has cancelled his sixth show in Dublin! Due to complaints by the residents of lower Baggot Street our Garth Brooks tribute this weekend will now only take place on Monday night from 8.30pm til late!!"
Let's be honest, this smacks of a publicity stunt and they probably didn't have the Brooks tribute act booked for Sunday night at all. Still though, nicely done Doheny Nesbitts. All we need now is for Enda and the Mexican ambassador to get involved...
