Dr. Dre is set to release his first album in 16 years, with reports suggesting that the album may be released in the next couple of weeks.
Dre's last record of new material was the hugely successful '2001', released in 1999.
Now, the rapper's third solo album - the soundtrack to the forthcoming NWA biopic 'Straight Outta Compton' - is apparently ready for release and he is expected to confirm its release on his Beats 1 radio show this Saturday. The album is set to feature Dre's one-time protégé Eminem, as well as Kendrick Lamar and other unconfirmed members of NWA and was "inspired by the movie", according to the rapper.
His former NWA colleague Ice Cube let the news slip on a radio station yesterday morning, saying that it would be released on August 1st (Saturday), but Rolling Stone have reported that multiple sources have told them that it will a later date.
Although Dre's long-awaited follow-up to '2001' has been in the works for years - initially under the title 'Detox' - that album appears to have been shelved after several songs from it leaked in 2009.
