He has never been a stranger to controversy throughout his career, but David Bowie's new track will have a few tongues wagging and eyebrows raised with its both its title and its PG-rated lyrics.
'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore' is paraphrased from the title of a 17th century play by John Ford ('Tis a Pity She's a Whore'), and according to Bowie, "acknowledges the shocking rawness of the First World War" with lines like "Man, she punched me like a dude – hold your mad hands, I cried" and "Black struck the kiss, she kept my cock – smote the mistress, drifting on; 'tis a pity she was a whore."
The track is the second new song that Bowie has released since his 2013 album 'The Next Day' and is the B-side to 'Sue (Or In a Season of Crime)'. It's available to download from today, and you can hear it below.
