The documentary series is exclusively available on Disney Plus
'The World According to Jeff Goldblum' follows the star of such films as 'The Fly', 'Jurassic Park' and 'Independence Day' as he explores various phenomena. Goldblum examines the history and innovation of ice cream, denim, tattoos, bicycles and sneakers, among other topics. He meets all kinds of individuals who make a living from the topic of the day. And he never ceases to be his Blum-y self in the process.
How no one thought of giving Jeff Goldblum his own show before this is beyond me. The 67 year old has proven to be one of the most charismatic and beloved actors of our generation. He's immediately likable and has a cheeky, optimistic personality that is made for TV hosting. In fact, within the first 30 seconds of the series, Goldblum has already purred to camera. You just know he's going to take you on a fun-filled adventure.
'The World According to Jeff Goldblum' sees the actor talk about his personal experience with the subject matter, for example, in the sneakers episode, he talks about wearing Keds as a child. The ice cream episodes includes adorable pictures of a young Goldblum gorging on the delicious treat. He often gives familiar looks to camera and sings every now and again too. There's a childlike sweetness to him, for example when we see him run down the beach with ice cream in hand singing "Tomorrow" from 'Annie'. Goldblum shows a genuine interest in the people he interviews and topics under exploration. Thus the audience becomes quickly invested too.
Also working for the Disney Plus original documentary series is the fact that in easily consumed 30 minute long episodes, much is covered. They're often all-American institutions under consideration and Goldblum travels across the US to learn more. The actor visits conventions, fairs or markets to meet hardcore fans of the chosen subject. He also looks into the history and science of the project, as well as individuals who are working on its future. It's a thought-provoking series, and loaded with personality. The doc series thus marks a step in the right direction for Disney+ original content. Here's hoping we get more shows like it. And just more Jeff Goldblum.
